Content Review & Correction Policy

At Historical Nigeria, our mission is to preserve, document, and share Nigeria’s history with honesty, respect, and accuracy.
We recognise that historical storytelling requires both responsibility and sensitivity. To maintain trust and accuracy, we provide a transparent process for reviewing, correcting, or removing content when necessary.

This policy outlines how individuals can request content corrections, updates, or removals, and how we handle such requests.

1. Our Commitment to Accuracy and Respect

Historical Nigeria is dedicated to factual integrity and cultural respect.
All published content is based on credible sources such as:

  • Historical archives and research publications
  • Academic and peer-reviewed materials
  • Oral histories and verified testimonies
  • Government or institutional records

Even with careful editorial review, errors or sensitivities may occasionally arise. When this happens, we take prompt action to investigate and correct the issue.

2. When to Submit a Request

You may submit a content review request if:

  • You identify factual inaccuracies in an article.
  • You believe content includes outdated or misleading information.
  • You are the subject, copyright holder, or legal representative and believe material infringes your rights.
  • The content includes private, sensitive, or defamatory material.
  • You wish to request partial or full removal of content based on legitimate ethical, legal, or personal grounds.

  • Our editorial team reviews the claim and any evidence provided.
  • We conduct independent verification using trusted sources.
  • If necessary, we may contact you for clarification or additional documentation.
  • Verified corrections or removals are implemented within 7–14 business days.

For complex or disputed matters, a longer review period may apply.

5. Possible Outcomes

After review, one of the following actions may be taken:

  • Correction: Updating factual details such as dates, names, or sources.
  • Clarification: Adding context or references to ensure accuracy.
  • Update: Incorporating new verified information or research.
  • Removal: Deleting content that violates legal, ethical, or privacy standards.
  • No Action: If the request lacks sufficient evidence or falls outside editorial policy.

6. Transparency in Corrections

When significant changes are made:

  • Minor edits (grammar, formatting) may not include a public note.
  • For removals, the URL may be redirected to a statement or category archive page.

7. Historical Context and Responsibility

As a platform devoted to history, Historical Nigeria acknowledges that new research may reinterpret past events.
When new evidence emerges, we update content accordingly while preserving historical accuracy and academic integrity.
We do not alter historical facts to suit political, cultural, or social bias.
