These leaders are said to have come from Ile, Ife following a dispute over royal succession.

Their journey did not end immediately in Awe. Tradition holds that they passed through Egba Gbagura before eventually settling in the area that became the present town. Their final settlement is closely tied to a place marked by an aruwewe tree, which is remembered as significant in the naming of Awe. The connection between the tree and the town’s name reflects the way natural features, belief, and identity are intertwined in Yoruba historical memory.

The Discovery of Sogidi Lake

Sogidi became central to this story at a critical moment. Before Awe was fully established, hunters were sent out to search for water. During this search, they discovered a body of water that would later be known as Sogidi.
