Aisha Bello Mustapha was born in 1966 in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. She attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where she studied Mass Communication. The university has long been known for producing graduates who enter journalism, broadcasting, and other areas of public communication.
Her academic training in mass communication prepared her for work in Nigeria’s broadcast media industry, which during that period relied heavily on trained newsroom professionals to manage reporting, production, and presentation.
Beginning a Career at the Nigerian Television Authority
After completing her studies, Bello Mustapha joined the Nigerian Television Authority, commonly known as NTA. Established in 1977, NTA operates Nigeria’s national public television network and maintains one of the country’s largest terrestrial broadcasting systems.
She spent about thirty five years working within the organisation. Over that time she worked in several newsroom roles that included journalism, television production, editing, and news presentation. These responsibilities involved gathering news information, preparing broadcast scripts, and coordinating television bulletins within the newsroom structure.

Work on NTA Network News
During her career at NTA, Bello Mustapha became widely known through her work as a presenter on NTA Network News, one of the network’s national news bulletins. The programme broadcasts national and international news reports across NTA stations.
Television news presentation requires coordination between presenters, producers, editors, and technical teams in order to deliver daily bulletins to viewers. Bello Mustapha’s role as a presenter placed her among the broadcasters responsible for delivering national news on the network.
During the period when terrestrial television was the primary source of news for many households, NTA Network News served as a major platform for nationwide information.
Leadership Roles in the NTA News Division
As her professional career progressed, Bello Mustapha moved into newsroom leadership. She served as Assistant Director of News at the Nigerian Television Authority, a senior editorial role within the organisation’s news division.
In that position she participated in supervising newsroom operations, coordinating editorial work, and contributing to the management of news coverage across the network.
Her career later moved into administrative broadcasting leadership.
General Manager of NTA Parliament
Bello Mustapha later served as General Manager of NTA Parliament, a specialised television channel operated by the Nigerian Television Authority. The channel focuses on broadcasting activities connected to Nigeria’s National Assembly and other legislative institutions.
NTA Parliament transmits parliamentary sessions, legislative debates, and related proceedings in order to provide public access to legislative activities.
As General Manager, Bello Mustapha oversaw the channel’s broadcast operations and administration, coordinating programming and organisational responsibilities connected to legislative coverage.
Retirement After Three and a Half Decades
After approximately thirty five years in Nigerian broadcasting, Bello Mustapha retired from the Nigerian Television Authority in May 2022. Her retirement marked the conclusion of a long career within the national public broadcasting system.
Her years at NTA spanned several decades of changes in Nigeria’s media environment, including the growth of private television stations and the expansion of digital news platforms.
Death and Public Tributes
Aisha Bello Mustapha died in Abuja on 10 December 2023 at the age of 57.
Her death was reported by several Nigerian media organisations and prompted tributes from colleagues and public officials.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a condolence message noting her long career with the Nigerian Television Authority and her service to the country’s broadcasting sector.
